Cambodia To Host AMAF In 2020

Cambodia will be the host country for the 41st meeting of the Asean Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) in 2020, according to a senior official of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Xinhua/Then Chih Wey After returning from Vietnam where he participated in the 40th AMAF and the 18th AMAF Plus Three (AMAF+3) in Hanoi on Sunday, Agriculture Minister Veng Sakhon said the government vowed to boost the reform of the agriculture sector. He said the ministry of agriculture will prioritize the tasks in the agriculture sector to align with the development of the country’s economy and the region’s economy. He said Cambodia will prepare to be the host country for the 41st meeting of the AMAF in 2020. “Through the release the new policy encouraging investors, particularly in the agriculture sector, and through calls in various meeting both at local and international levels, Cambodia hopes to have more investment flowing into the agriculture sector,” he said. Last month, Mr Sakhon told officials the goal of the agricultural development policy is to bolster the development of the sector. It will ensure food security and nutrition and will help reduce poverty. It will also boost productivity, diversification, as well as the commercialisation of the final products. He said the policy will help achieve sustainability in the sector and resilience to climate change, as well as aid in the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices in animal production, animal health and the management of fisheries. “The agriculture development policy will also contribute to reduced losses in soil quality and land sustainability, as well as prevent a fall in the quality of our ecological system. All specialised departments must prepare zoning systems to match the right crops with the right soils.
